Welcome to Manbana

Manbana Aquaculture Centre is an Aboriginal owned hatchery in Broome, Western Australia , which produces cultured marine ornamental fish for the aquarium industry. Manbana (MSH Pty Ltd) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kimberley Aquaculture Aboriginal Corporation and operates from a $3.5M multi-species hatchery in the Broome Tropical Aquaculture Park. Manbana reliably produces and supplies a diverse range of high quality marine ornamentals to the aquarium fish market, in an environmentally friendly manner.

We provide excellent quality fish in optimal health which have been cultured using best practice techniques at the Manbana hatchery in Broome, located on the pristine waters of the remote Kimberley coast in north-west tropical Australia.

Globally, around 98% of marine ornamentals are wild caught. This largely involves the use of cyanide fishing which is devastating for the environment and results in fish health issues and poor survival rates. Around 70% of marine ornamental fish on the Australian market are imported, with just under 30% wild caught in Australia and less than 2% cultured domestically.

Not only are Manbana cultured fish healthier than wild caught fish but their production also conserves natural reefs and fish stocks. The fish are less prone to disease, already weened onto suitable diets, and around 6 months of age or less. Manbana has the capacity to produce 7 families of marine ornamental fish including clownfish, dottybacks, cardinal fish, grammas, gobies, seahorses and roundheads.
