Production Methods

Marine aquarium fish are produced at Manbana using static green-water systems for larval rearing and recirculating systems for juvenile grow-out and broodstock. Filtered seawater is used in the culture of most of the fish and saline bore water for some species.

The incoming water temperature ranges from 26 o C in the dry season to 33 o C in wet season and is maintained at optimum temperatures using heater chill pumps. Optimum water characteristics are achieved by utilising mechanical filtration, biological filtration, UV sterilisers and good culture techniques.

Manbana has broodstock, larval rearing, juvenile grow-out, live feed and quarantine sections, packing room, micro-algae room and dry laboratory. We produce our own live feeds including algae, rotifers, artemia and copepods. Specific production techniques vary from species to species
